Mmmm….

We got the okay from Owen's doctor at his 4 month appointment to start cereal, & if he did well with that for 2-4 weeks, then he can start baby food.

He's finally gotten the hang of cereal & so we went ahead with baby food. I'm making my own baby food (yay for grandmas that have gardens!) & had green beans on hand, so I made that into a puree & we fed that to him tonight.

At first, he LOVED it.

Then, he decided he wasn't so sure about it.

What IS this mom & dad?
Love his little expressions!

A few bites after that, he was turning his head & spitting it out, so we stopped. I guess we'll try this for a few days then move onto the next food. How is my baby this old?!

Oh & this is big sissy watching waiting on anything to drop on the floor that she can eat. If she only knew that this wasn't the "usual" food that she's used to.

5 months

Owen -

You are FIVE months old today! How did this happen? Weren't you just born yesterday?

I know I said this last month, but you have changed so much in the past month!

All about you:

Sleep. Oh sleep, how I miss you!
You are officially in your crib full-time now. We even put your cradle into storage so momma doesn't get tempted to put you in it at night. Lately, you have wanted momma to rock you to sleep, so usually I rock you around 8:30 & put you down for the night. We do a dream feed around 10, then you sleep until anywhere from 4-6, then you are back down until 6:30 or 7. Unfortunately, you've gotten in this habit of getting up 1-2 times, sometimes starting at midnight, & we play the "paci game." Sometimes, the paci soothes you & you are able to fall right back to sleep, but others you get so restless & it's hard for you to settle back into a good sleep. You also wake yourself up by rolling to your back. We all know you can't sleep on your back & so considering you can't roll back over, you won't go back to sleep until we come & roll you back to your belly. I do have to say, some of my favorite moments of the day are when you first get up & when I rock you to sleep at night. In the mornings, I put you into bed with us. I love snuggling & "talking" to you. Sometimes, you fall back asleep in my arms, but mostly, you just sit & "talk" back to me. I love soaking in these moments!

You are becoming so much more interactive with us & love to play! We lay a blanket out on the floor in the living room & surround you with your toys & you just smile & coo. You put e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g in your mouth & you have been known to make a puddle of drool on momma & daddy's shoulders. I just wish a tooth would pop through for you so you could get some relief! Some days, we do give you Tylenol and/or Hyland's teething tablets, but for the most part, you just love to chew on frozen teething rings.

You are loving tummy time more & more. You are consistently rolling from tummy to back (mostly on our bed/in your crib) & you are so close to rolling from your back to your belly! You try to sit up but topple over pretty quickly. Over the past week though, you have gotten better at sitting & are trying more. You are also laughing all the time! Daddy found out your belly & feet are ticklish & you will laugh & laugh for us. We love hearing it & we continuously tickle you just so we can hear it. Poor little guy!

(I know this is blurry, but it was an outtake from his pictures today & it was too cute not to post)

You have definitely started growing some more hair & for the most part, it is blonde. In some lights though, I see some red. We shall see because I know it's already changed so much over the past few months!

You had your first Easter on March 31st & the Easter Bunny was so good to you! You got 3 books, Peeps (silly Bunny, you can't eat Peeps!), & a teething ring. Mommy & daddy came to the rescue & ate the Peeps for you!

We give you baths every other night but lotion you every night. It's our "wind down" routine with you. You wear a size 3 diaper & some 3-6 month outfits & some 6-9 month outfits. You even wore a 12 month onesie yesterday with 3-6 pants (ha!). You take 4-5oz of formula every 3-4 hours (starting to space out more to 4 hours). We also tried oatmeal cereal with you. You have finally gotten in the swing of it & love it! We give you cereal once/day. We will be starting solids within the next week & we can't wait to see how you react to those! Momma loves all of your rolls!

(sorry for the bad lighting)

5 month stats:
Height: 27 inches
Weight: 19 pounds, 7 ounces

Owen, you have brought so much joy to our lives. I can't imagine life without you in it! We love you, bubby!
